Patagonia Forra Wading Boots

The Patagonia Forra Wading Boots are built for anglers who cover ground. Lightweight, fast-drying, and supportive enough for technical wading, the Forra bridges the gap between a hiking boot and a serious fly fishing wading boot.

An abrasion-resistant Cordura® nylon mesh upper cuts weight and sheds water quickly. A high collar adds ankle support when side-hilling, climbing over boulders, or working through uneven river bottoms, while a reinforced toe cap takes the abuse that comes with hard wading.

Underfoot, Patagonia uses a Vibram® Mars outsole with XS Trek compound and aggressive HexaBase lugs. The broad sole profile puts more rubber against rock for dependable traction while maintaining the walking efficiency anglers need for long approaches.

At just 41 ounces per pair, the Forra is exceptionally light for a full-support wading boot.

Performance

The Forra is at its best when fishing requires as much walking as wading. Less weight on your feet matters over several miles of trail, and the stripped-down construction keeps the boot from becoming excessively heavy after repeated submersion.

The Cordura mesh upper is deliberately free of unnecessary foam and backing materials, allowing water to drain rapidly and the boot to dry faster between days on the river.

A taller, relatively stiff upper provides lateral support on unstable terrain. The adjustable webbing lacing system locks the foot down securely, and corrosion-resistant hardware makes the construction equally practical around freshwater and saltwater.

For additional traction on slick rock, the Vibram outsole is compatible with the Patagonia Forra Grip Studs™ Traction Kit.

Why we use it

We like the Forra for anglers who fish on foot.

It makes particular sense for western rivers, backcountry trout water, hike-in fisheries, and anywhere a day involves several miles outside the truck. At roughly 41 ounces per pair, it eliminates a surprising amount of weight without giving up the ankle support and toe protection we expect from a legitimate wading boot.

The Vibram rubber sole also gives it versatility. It handles trails, gravel, mud, and riverbanks better than traditional felt while allowing additional studs when maximum rock traction is required.
