Fly Fishing 101 is a focused, two-hour introduction designed to give you the skills, confidence, and clarity to begin your fly-fishing journey with purpose. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the fundamentals that seasoned anglers rely on: how to cast with efficiency, assemble your gear correctly, fight and land fish with control, and tie the essential knots that hold an entire rig together.

Schedule and setting: Classes run Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Feather Craft shop, capped at eight students to ensure personalized instruction. Arrival is about 10 minutes early; we start promptly at 8:00 AM to maximize every minute.

Class structure: In-Shop Education covers Fly Rods, Fly Reels, Backing & Fly Line, Leader & Tippet, Flies, Knots, Tools & Accessories, and Local Fly-Fishing Opportunities. Outdoor Casting focuses on the mechanics of the cast, hooking and fighting fish, netting and landing, plus techniques for freshwater and saltwater environments.

Outcomes: a rock-solid foundation you can apply on day one, plus ongoing Feather Craft guidance to choose the right gear as you progress. Your instructor, Jim Murphy, brings decades of real-world experience from rivers, streams, and stillwaters nationwide.
