A lodge beside the Blanda

Long Valley has 12 double or twin guest rooms, each with a private en-suite bathroom. The lodge sits in a green valley near Blönduós, with the river close by and broad views across the surrounding country.

After the river

A lounge, outdoor deck, hot tub and sauna give you room to settle in after fishing. Full board and chef-prepared meals are part of the quoted packages. On the River Hopping Adventure, breakfast and dinner are at the lodge and lunch is taken beside the day's river.

Rooms and companions

The 2027 River Hopping Adventure accommodates up to 16 guests per departure. Its standard rate is based on sharing a room and guide; a combined single-room and private-guide option is also listed. Custom lodge stays can be arranged around your group.

Non-angling guests can enjoy the lodge or arrange regional sightseeing, nature excursions and cultural visits. Let us know about dietary requirements, room preferences and companion plans when you inquire. Alcohol is billed separately.

Getting to northern Iceland

Plan international travel through Keflavík International Airport (KEF). Fish Partner includes domestic transfers on its set shuttle schedule. General lodge programs offer scheduled pickups from Reykjavík or Keflavík; the exact pickup point and timing depend on the booked itinerary.

The 2027 River Hopping schedule

• Arrival day: scheduled noon pickup in Reykjavík, followed by the drive north and lodge check-in around 4 p.m.
• Fishing days: five full days on northern rivers, returning to Long Valley each evening.
• Departure day: breakfast and lunch at the lodge, with the return shuttle scheduled to leave at 4 p.m.

Arrange flights around the confirmed transfer, including any Reykjavík hotel nights needed before or after the package. The afternoon return means you should not assume a same-day international departure will work. Optional sightseeing on the final day can be discussed.

Clean equipment before fishing

Iceland requires fishing equipment previously used abroad to be disinfected before it is used in Icelandic rivers or lakes. Arrange an accepted disinfection service and any required documentation with Fish Partner. The River Hopping itinerary includes equipment disinfection and setup after arrival.

Beyond the fishing

Sightseeing and non-angling activities can be arranged separately. Tell us whether you want a fishing-focused stay or extra time to explore, and we will help coordinate the lodge dates with the rest of your trip.

Choose your water

• Atlantic salmon: the Blanda offers broad pools for swinging flies, while nearby Svartá adds smaller water and a different pace.
• Brown trout and Arctic char: options include the Blanda, the upper Svartá trout beat, Kolka and Northern Highlands waters.
• Mixed itineraries: combine salmon fishing with trout and char days, with the actual rivers chosen around your dates, permits and objectives.

Sea-run brown trout and sea-run char can also feature in suitable Blanda estuary itineraries. These are opportunities to discuss when planning, rather than species promised on every package. A Blanda float trip can be arranged as an additional option.

2027 River Hopping Adventure

This program centers on brown trout and Arctic char across five full fishing days, with six nights at Long Valley. The planned mix draws on the Northern Highlands, Svartá, Kolka, Hjaltadalsá and Hofsá/Runukvísl. The final rotation is selected by the operator; every river is not guaranteed on every departure.

Kolka can also produce Atlantic salmon, adding a possible third species. The main appeal is adapting to different water each day, from nymphing runs to swinging streamers. The supplied itinerary leaves part of the daily schedule flexible.

Before your first cast

For the River Hopping program, Fish Partner lists 9- to 10-foot single-handed rods in 4- through 7-weight, plus optional 10- to 12-foot light two-handed rods in 2- through 4-weight. Floating and intermediate lines cover the published starting setup.

A dedicated salmon itinerary calls for a different outfit. The lodge's equipment guidance includes 13- to 15-foot 8- through 10-weight two-handed rods and 9- to 10-foot 7- or 8-weight single-handed rods. We will match rods, heads, tips, leaders and flies to your actual waters before departure.

Bring dependable waders and boots, a waterproof shell, warm layers and polarized glasses. A spare rod and reel are sensible for a trip with several fishing days. Practice accurate short- and medium-range presentations, line control and the casting style your selected program uses.

2027 River Hopping Adventure

USD $7,200 per person, based on a shared room and shared guide. The package includes five full fishing days and six nights at Long Valley Lodge.

Single room plus private guide: USD $10,850 per person total, a $3,650 supplement to the shared package. This supplement combines both services.

Possible additional departures are August 27-September 2, September 2-8 and September 8-14, 2027. These were listed as potential extensions by the operator and require confirmation.

Custom lodge stays

Trout-only, salmon-only and mixed itineraries are also available. Request a quote for your dates, trip length, room arrangement and guiding preference. These custom packages have a separate pricing structure from the River Hopping Adventure.

Plan for separately

Alcohol and gratuities are excluded. Budget separately for international flights, hotels outside the package, and any equipment rental, float trip or sightseeing you choose to add. Confirm all additions in your written quote.

Booking terms

Prices above are the operator's quoted 2027 rates. Availability is confirmed when you inquire. Your proposal will specify room and guide arrangements, payment dates, deposit requirements and cancellation terms before a booking is made.

Should I choose trout, salmon or a mixed trip?

Start with the fishing that matters most to you. Trout and char days reward observation and adaptable presentations; the salmon program gives more time to swinging flies. A mixed itinerary lets you combine the two, with rates and permits built around the chosen waters.

Do we change lodges during river hopping?

No. You stay at Long Valley for all six nights and travel to different fishing areas with your guide. Day-to-day driving is part of the program.

Can a less experienced angler join?

Tell us about your casting and wading experience before choosing a program. Some water is technical. We can discuss the most suitable itinerary and help you prepare, including practice with a two-handed rod if your trip calls for one.

Can my non-fishing partner come?

Yes. Non-angling companions are welcome, with sightseeing and other experiences available by arrangement. Request a separate quote for their room and activity plan.

Can you help me prepare?

Yes. Bring us your existing equipment list. We will help fill the gaps in rods, reels, lines, leaders, tippet and flies. Fly tyers can work with us on a selection for the actual rivers and season.
