A farmhouse beside the Fossálar

Battle Hill occupies a renovated farmhouse on private land in southeast Iceland, near Kirkjubæjarklaustur. The setting brings together river, lava field and mountain views, with the countryside immediately outside the door.

Rooms and bathrooms

The house has four twin rooms and two single rooms across two floors, with two and a half shared bathrooms. Total sleeping capacity is ten guests. The new summer fishing program is limited to eight anglers per departure.

Confirm room allocation with your booking. A single room provides your own bedroom; bathrooms are shared. Guests who need step-free access or have other accommodation requirements should discuss them before selecting dates.

Meals and evenings

Full board is included. The lodge program provides breakfast, lunch for the fishing day and dinner back at the house. The common lounge and dining room make it easy to compare notes with the other anglers and plan for tomorrow.

Traveling companions

The surrounding region offers scenery and sightseeing possibilities, but this is primarily an angling lodge. Ask us to arrange non-fishing plans and pricing before bringing a companion. Tell us about dietary needs in advance. Alcohol is not included in the package rate.

Arrival in Iceland

Use Keflavík International Airport (KEF) as your international gateway. Fish Partner includes domestic lodge transfers on a fixed shuttle schedule. Pickup arrangements involve Reykjavík or Keflavík according to your confirmed itinerary.

The journey follows Iceland's south coast to the lodge near Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Confirm pickup and return times before buying flights, and allow for any Reykjavík hotel nights required around your fishing package.

Spring and fall stays

The quoted 2027 departure blocks are six nights. Anglers fish a rotation of waters in the Skaftá system. Daily fishing hours, transfer times and the river rotation are confirmed in the final itinerary.

The summer program

Summer departures include four lodge nights, three full fishing days and two half days. The program uses a hovercraft to reach lower Skaftá water that is difficult to access by conventional transport. The guide team chooses the day's water and approach around conditions.

Equipment disinfection

Fishing equipment previously used abroad must be disinfected before use in Icelandic rivers or lakes. We'll help you arrange an accepted service and any required documentation with Fish Partner before your first fishing session.

Additional travel

Tell us if you would like sightseeing days before or after the fishing. We can coordinate those plans with your lodge dates. Flights, extra hotel nights and separately arranged excursions should be budgeted outside the fishing package.

Sea trout in the Skaftá system

Battle Hill's established program rotates among Vatnamót, Fossálar and Geirlandsá. These connected fisheries offer different water, from broad junction runs and black-sand banks to smaller pools and waterfall country.

The target is sea-run brown trout. Both two-handed and single-handed rods have a place: swinging flies across open runs, working streamers, or fishing nymphs through more intimate water. Guides are normally shared by two anglers.

Choose the season

Spring and fall are the established sea trout programs. The 2027 spring blocks run from April 16 to May 16, while fall blocks run from August 27 to October 20. Conditions, fish movement and your preferred style of fishing should guide the choice.

New for summer 2027

The summer program runs July 27 through August 20 and focuses on the lower Skaftá below Vatnamót. New access lets the guides reach water that is otherwise difficult to approach. Single-handed rods remain useful alongside two-handed outfits.

Choose summer for the lower-river exploration and its particular opportunities. The fishing should be assessed on its own terms.

Prepare for the water

• Two-handed fishing: the lodge's equipment guidance lists 11- to 14-foot rods in 6- through 9-weight.
• Single-handed streamers: 9- to 10-foot 7- or 8-weight rods.
• Single-handed nymphing: 9- to 10-foot 5- or 6-weight rods.
• Lines and reels: floating and intermediate options, suitable sink tips and reliable reels with strong drags.

We will narrow that range to the season and method you book, then match lines and tips to the actual rod. Bring warm layers, a waterproof shell, dependable waders and boots, polarized glasses, gloves and a backup outfit. Spend some time practicing casting and line control before the trip.

Fly tyers can prepare with us around FishPartner's recommended sea trout flies. Final patterns, sizes and leader choices should follow the booked waters and conditions.

Deposits and terms

We will provide the confirmed itinerary, room arrangement, payment schedule, deposit and cancellation terms before you book. The listed departures are operator programs available through Feather Craft; no Feather Craft-hosted week is designated.

Is summer the same trip as spring or fall?

Summer is a distinct program centered on hovercraft access to the lower Skaftá. Spring and fall focus on the established rotation through Vatnamót, Fossálar and Geirlandsá. The summer package is shorter and has its own pricing.

Do I need to be a Spey caster?

Two-handed rods are useful on the larger runs, but single-handed streamer and nymph fishing also have a place. Tell us what you enjoy and what you already cast. We can help you select equipment and practice before departure.

Are the bathrooms private?

No. The lodge has four twin rooms and two single rooms with two and a half shared bathrooms. Confirm the room plan before booking.

How many anglers are in the summer group?

Summer departures are limited to eight anglers, with one guide for each pair. This program limit is separate from the house's ten-guest sleeping capacity.

How demanding is the fishing?

Expect walking and wading on natural riverbanks, with the day's demands affected by water, weather and the selected beat. Let us know about balance, mobility or stamina concerns to assess a suitable plan.

Can I bring a non-angling companion?

Ask us to discuss the room arrangement and off-water plans with the lodge. Companion activities and costs need to be arranged in advance.
