Settle into Patagonia.

Le Fario Lodge, on the shores of Laguna Larga.

Follow a river through the forest. Search a lake edge for a rise. Finish the day beside Laguna Larga, with the Andes beyond the windows and dinner in the hands of your hosts. Argentina Waters gives a Patagonia trout trip room to take several forms.

Le Fario Lodge is the program's home base inside Los Alerces National Park, near Esquel and Trevelin. Its small scale and range of nearby water make it an appealing place to settle in. Add Brookiland in the Río Pico region when brook trout and a second, secluded base are priorities.

Find your fit

Who is this trip for?

We like this trip for anglers who want variety: floating a river one day, working a lake shoreline the next, then returning to a small lodge where the hosts know the week's plans.

Tell us how much walking and wading you enjoy, whether you prefer surface fishing or streamers, and who is traveling with you. Newer anglers can request instruction, and non-angling partners can build their own program. We will help match the itinerary to the experience you want.

The Stay

Le Fario on Laguna Larga

Owners Laura and Gonzalo host an intimate lodge inside Los Alerces National Park. Le Fario welcomes up to eight anglers, with the lake just outside and views toward the Andes. Guest rooms have private bathrooms and king-size beds; confirm the bedding arrangement that suits your group.

After the fishing

A living room with a wood fireplace, an outdoor hot tub, a sauna and a dedicated wader room give the day a comfortable finish. Both owners are trained chefs. Meals draw on local ingredients, produce from their garden and Argentine wines.

Add Brookiland

The Río Pico extension uses a separate four-guest retreat with two rooms, king or twin beds and private bathrooms. A shared living area and fireplace provide a simple, quiet base between days pursuing brook and rainbow trout. Confirm the room allocation and nights at each lodge in your itinerary.

Time away from the water

Non-anglers can discuss hiking, kayaking, horseback outings, local culture visits and cooking experiences. Choose activities around individual interests and confirm arrangements when booking.

Travel

Buenos Aires to Esquel

Plan international travel into Buenos Aires, followed by a domestic connection to Esquel. The operator meets guests at Esquel Airport for the roughly one-hour drive to Le Fario. Coordinate flights with your lodge dates before purchasing tickets, including any airport change or overnight needed in Buenos Aires.

The Le Fario week

The standard published program is seven nights with approximately six and a half fishing days, subject to flight timing. Arrival is followed by guided days around the region, with a possible final session on Laguna Larga before the airport transfer.

Combining the lodges

Brookiland adds a transfer to the Río Pico area. Ask us to confirm the full day-by-day itinerary and nights at each base, particularly if you are combining Argentina Waters with another Patagonian lodge.

Before departure

Share room preferences, dietary needs, equipment sizes and walking or wading considerations in advance. Allow useful space in your schedule for connections and keep essential fishing clothing with you where airline allowances permit. We will help organize the questions and equipment list before you travel.

Fishing

A different kind of water each day

Brown and rainbow trout are central to the Le Fario program. The fishing ranges from river floats and wading to lakes and spring creeks, with guides choosing water and methods around conditions and your preferences.

The published itinerary includes the Río Arrayanes, Río Rivadavia and Río Futaleufú, plus Lago Verde, Río Frey, Lago Krugger and Laguna Larga. Treat these as examples of the area's range, with the day's destination set by your guide.

Choose your season

  • November: spring water levels and a mix of nymphs, streamers and dry flies.
  • December through February: summer days, terrestrial patterns and opportunities to fish the surface.
  • March and April: cooler conditions and a stronger reason to bring a streamer outfit.

Brookiland and Río Pico

Add the Brookiland program for a stronger focus on brook and rainbow trout in a second part of Chubut. It involves moving between bases, so discuss the balance of travel and fishing before choosing the combined itinerary.

Prepare your tackle

A 5-weight and a more wind-capable 6- or 7-weight make a useful starting point. Bring floating and appropriate sinking options, leaders, tippet and a fly selection matched to your dates. Rods, reels, waders and boots are available through the operator; confirm sizes, availability and which consumables your package covers. We can help prepare your equipment before departure.

FAQs

Can a newer fly angler come?

Yes. Guides can help with casting, presentations and fly choice. Tell us your experience so the fishing days fit your ability.

How demanding is the fishing?

Some days involve walking and wading; others can emphasize boats. Discuss mobility and boat-entry needs in advance so the operator can plan suitable water.

What can a non-angler do?

Hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, cultural excursions and cooking experiences can be arranged. We will help discuss the pace and activities each person wants.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Internet access is available at the lodge, but connectivity can vary. Plan around the setting if you need dependable work access.

Can the lodge handle dietary requirements?

Share allergies and dietary needs before booking so the kitchen can confirm arrangements.

What should I pack?

Bring a waterproof jacket, warm layers, polarized glasses, a hat and sun protection. Check the condition of your waders and boots if bringing your own, and carry a practical backup for your main rod.

Will we fish for all three trout species?

That depends on your program and the water selected. If brook trout are a priority, discuss Brookiland when planning the trip.
