Fly to King Salmon

King Salmon, Alaska (AKN), is the gateway for ATA Lodge. Most travelers connect through Anchorage (ANC), then continue to King Salmon for the lodge charter. Travel to King Salmon and any overnight stay there are separate from Feather Craft’s listed lodge package.

The final flight to the river

The package includes the flight from King Salmon to ATA Lodge, where aircraft land on a private airstrip at the property. This final leg takes you into the Alagnak country and away from the road system. Keep a camera and a warm layer accessible, and pack with the small-aircraft transfer in mind.

Coordinate your arrival

The lodge currently requests that guests be at King Salmon airport by 9:00 a.m. on arrival day, with charter departures beginning around 10:00 a.m. Arriving the previous day and staying in King Salmon provides more connection time. Confirm the transfer window for your particular booking before buying airline tickets.

Leave room for the return journey

The lodge recommends a late-afternoon flight out of King Salmon on departure day. Weather can affect bush flights, so allow room in your connections and discuss the full route with Feather Craft before finalizing it. Flights outside the lodge’s normal transfer schedule require advance approval and may involve an extra charter charge.

Pack for the bush flight

Use soft duffel-style luggage and confirm baggage limits before departure. Bring layers, a waterproof jacket, waders, appropriate wading boots, polarized glasses, and a dry bag for items carried on the river. Your final equipment list should reflect the dates and species you intend to fish.

The Alagnak’s Upper Braids

The Alagnak divides into a network of channels, bars, runs, and holding water that rewards a mobile approach. ATA Lodge sits in the Upper Braids, with jet boats used to reach fishing water along the river. Guides help match the day’s water and presentations to river conditions, fish movement, and your priorities.

Salmon and resident fish

The system receives all five Pacific salmon species: king, sockeye, chum, pink, and silver. Resident fishing adds leopard rainbow trout, Arctic grayling, Dolly Varden, and Arctic char. These opportunities change through the season, so choosing the right week matters as much as choosing the destination.

Match the season to the goal

The general fishing season runs from June into September. Early-season trips can emphasize trout and grayling. Salmon returns create different opportunities through summer, while later weeks bring interest in silver salmon and trout feeding around the spawning runs. Current Feather Craft package

The price 2027 season is $8,525 and the price for the 2028 season is $8,950 per person. Select your preferred dates with Feather Craft and request confirmation of space, accommodation, and the complete itinerary before booking.

What is included

The existing Feather Craft listing includes the flight from King Salmon, seven days and six nights of lodging, six fully guided fishing days, all meals, and complimentary wine. The confirmed booking will specify your exact arrival and departure dates and accommodation arrangement.

What is additional

Travel to King Salmon, an overnight stay in King Salmon, an Alaska fishing license, any required king salmon stamp, guide and staff gratuities, and liquor are not included in the listed package. There is a $45 charge per fish box for guests taking fish home. Confirm current fees and any optional activities with your quote.

Deposit and final payment

A minimum 50% deposit is required to book. Final payment is due six months after the deposit, or sooner when the booking is made within six months of departure. Your booking confirmation will provide the actual balance-due date.

Is fishing guided?

Yes. The current Feather Craft package includes six fully guided fishing days. Let us know your experience level, preferred techniques, and comfort with wading when you inquire.
