The Claws-Up Crab can be used to target all predator fish that eat crabs. The primary fish species are permit, bonefish, redfish, black drum, tarpon, striped bass, bluefish, etc. The fly is tied to mimic swimming or crawling crabs. The fly will sink to the bottom and the foam claws float up to imitate a crab in a defensive posture. The claws move/wiggle by themselves in the current even when the fly sitting still on the bottom. The simulated movement becomes irresistible to the flats cruising predators. The fly can be fished like a traditional crab fly using a one-handed strip or it can be fished using short or long strips.
