Drawing on Skip Morris's Brick Back October Caddis concept, the fly imitates the important pupa transition. The bead head adds a natural sink rate and keeps the fly tracking as it moves through current.

Fished dead-drift below a strike indicator to imitate a pupa that failed to emerge or a drifting pupa regaining motion after so long in a shell, or cast upstream to sink and then swung toward the bank like a swimming pupa.
